Overview

Ski Only

Blizzards Kabookie may be a contender for the silliest named ski of the year, but this is anything but a silly ski. It features a pretty cool 98mm waist which announces its all mountain pretensions quite forcefully indeed. With an early rise rockered  tip and a pretty solid feeling underfoot the Kabookie looks to have all the makings of a crudbasher par excellence, and it does not disappoint in this department in any way. Apparently Blizzard have constructed a machine that seems to car little for the snow surface that you drive it on, or the terrain either. Its not an overly heavy ski either as the core has no metal layer, simply reinforcing stringers of bamboo keeping the weight down and adding a good deal of pop to the feel. Blizzards flipcore also aids in enhancing the liveliness and feeling of fun.

The Kabookie really requires a good bit of welly to get the best out of it in a firm pisted situation but really excels when the going gets rough and ready. It is a wide ski of course and cant be expected to place slalom short turns on rockhard pistes, it prefers to make a longer turn, and will go remarkably quick in a straight line, but will tend to get a little fluttery on the very fastest stretches. It will make an ideal blaster for spring skiing where you can experience many different snow types in a relatively short space of time. And it would make a great ski with a set of tour bindings, a little too heavy perhaps for pure touring or ski mountaineering, but if you want a ski for doing everything the Kabookie would be just awesome!
